Continuing on with my 10-post series, 10 Ways To Strengthen Your Marriage, number 9 is simply to do your part.
No marriage can be successful with a 0%/100% effort. Both spouses have to put in 100% effort in order to make the relationship work. So what does doing your part mean? Doing things for your spouse to ease his or her work load (laundry, dishes, clean house, run errands, etc) is one way to do your part. The little things add up and can make someone’s life so much easier. Doing your part also means being caring, respectful and loving to your spouse. No one wants to be around someone who doesn’t pay attention, is verbally/physically abusive or who is all around mean.
I like to think of doing our part just as our government system. If all parts did not work together, our nation would never achieve anything. The same thing goes for a married couple. Take the time to go the extra mile for your spouse! There will be times when one or both of you are disappointed. Lift each other up and provide encouragement. Show each other that you don’t have to go through life alone and that you have a support system that he or she can count on.
So, this Valentine’s Day, don’t just make it about candy or flowers. Do your part to keep your relationship running smoothly.
