Ah, it’s that time of year when my daughter dances in The Nutcracker Ballet. She has taken ballet for the last 5 years, and dancing in The Nutcracker for the last 4. For the first two years, she was a mouse. Last year she was a flag soldier, and this year she was both a flag soldier and an angel.
My little dancer loves participating in The Nutcracker and was very sad when she finished her last performance yesterday. She told me this morning that she wished she could have a performance every weekend.
It’s a lot of hard work to prepare for this annual tradition. Practices started back in September, and as the performances got closer, she was at the dance studio for hours several nights a week. She’d come home very tired with sore feet, but thus goes the life of any dancer, right? I’m super proud of how well she did. She is constantly improving and I can tell she is really talented. And I’m not just saying that because I’m her daddy.
The weekend was hectic, but a good hectic! Several dress rehearsals plus 3 performances in 2 days meant a lot of time on her feet. I love that the kids get to have their pictures made with the Nutcracker each year. It’s a great keepsake and a reminder of all of her hard work.
During Saturday evenings show, about 3 or 4 minutes after she took the stage to dance as an angel, there was so much smog coming from the smog machine that it set the fire alarm off. Not knowing really what to do, the dancers kept going! They didn’t stop nor did the scream. The dance teacher finally had them stop the performance so that everyone could clear the building for the fire department. It was a good 30-40 minutes before the show resumed.
Have you ever seen The Nutcracker? Have you danced in The Nutcracker before? What has your experience been like? Don’t worry, guys, you can still like it and be a man. I do plan on dancing with my daughter as a dad once she gets old enough. Yeah, I’ll look goofy doing it, but it is going to be an honor to be on stage with her!
Here are pictures from this weekend!
