So, you’ve done it: you’ve organized a party. You’ve sent the invitations out, readied your home, got the food and drink in and now you’re just waiting for your first guest to arrive. And, as you sit there waiting for the doorbell to ring, you suddenly have a bit of a panic. ‘How am I going to get this party started?’ you ask yourself. Well, the answer to that can be found in the party starting tips below.

Make sure finger food is made readily available
Everybody loves a bit of finger food just before they really jump into a party. It’s light and doesn’t involve sitting down for a three-course meal, yet it still helps partiers line their stomachs before drinking. So, make finger food, such as dips, readily and clearly available to all your guests. By doing so, you can help them ease into their surroundings for the evening and give them the chance to strike up conversations with other hungry partiers as they all stand around eating.
Play inclusive games
Once everybody has seemingly had their fill on finger food and is settled into the party, then it’s time to really light the torch paper. Everybody has now put their plates down, and now it’s time for you to stimulate the party and really get it going. The best way to do this is to set up a game that is inclusive and will not leave anybody out. This could be a board game, a games console game or a drinking game. The latter, driving games, should be played if you want to push your guests towards having a fun, alcohol-fueled evening. A few easy drinking games include: Ring of Fire, which involves setting up a ring of cards, having your guests pick these cards one by one and then having to submit to the drinking forfeit of each one and Never Have I Ever, which involves your guests asking questions of their fellow partiers in order to catch them out and, yep, you guessed it, try to make them drink. Whatever game you decide to play, just make sure it doesn’t go on for too long — you can’t be sitting around playing games all night.
Get the playlist spot on
And whilst you’re busy trying to push your guests in the partying direction you want them to go in for the evening, the perfect music playlist should be playing. This is the backdrop of your whole party, from beginning to end, but it can play a very big role in getting the party started. This is because it sets the mood — it will either get your guests pumped up to party, or send them into slumber. So, make sure to build just about as perfect a party playlist as you can; make sure this consists of not only the right songs, but the rights songs in the right order; and make sure whatever it is you are playing the music on and through is working to its optimum ability.
Party throwing is a tough task, there’s no denying that, but you can make it easier by just getting off to a good start with the parties you throw. Bare this in mind if you not only want to be the perfect party host, but actually want to enjoy the parties that you throw yourself.
