With Christmas day at the end of this week, chances are you’re not giving too much thought to your summer vacation right now. Here are some things to bear in mind when planning your summer vacation.

How Much Will You Spend?

Setting the budget is the first step. When you know how much or little you have to play with, you know what kind of destinations are available to you. If you’re able to something luxurious, great! But if your budget is smaller, there’s no need to fret, and there are still plenty of options. Either way, knowing how much you can afford and how much the vacation will cost will allow you to budget for it. Don’t forget; you’ll need to buy things like new clothes and shoes which can be costly. Event and excursion tickets and entrance fees to tourist attractions are another cost. In some cases, you might need to spend money on passports and new luggage too. If you’re booking a package holiday, this will include flights, but if you’re staying in the country where you live you will need to factor in travel costs too. This could be money for gas in the car, rail tickets or coach tickets. There are even holiday travel options which allow you to feel as though your trip has started before you’ve even arrived!

When Will You Go?

You will need to book a time which suits everyone in the family. Children will need to be broken up from school, and you and your partner will both need to be able to get the time off work. This is another reason booking early is beneficial; it’s likely to give you much more choice with the dates you can take off work. A few months down the line and everyone is going to be battling for those precious weeks off in the summer so make sure you get in there as soon as possible. If you have a son or daughter in higher education, you will need to make sure that the time doesn’t clash with exams as well as any resit times. In the event that they fail and a resit is needed, they’ll need to re-take it or will fail their course. Make sure it also doesn’t clash with other important times such as the weddings of close friends and family members. Or special birthdays or events which you will need to be around for.

What Kind of Vacation Do You Want?

Do you want something hot, tropical and relaxing with stunning beaches where you can put your feet up for a week or two? Do you want a destination where you can explore and find out about the culture and history? Do you want something active with plenty of outdoor activities or lots to do for children? Knowing what type of break you’re after will help you to narrow down your choices.
