Have you been scratching your head about what to send to your mailing list subscribers? Are you coming up empty on how to keep them engaged?
Whether you have 10 email subscribers or 10,000, you should be sending regular engaging emails to them. It’s no easy task when you have to do this on a regular, ongoing basis.
Today’s post is all about teaching you how and what to send to your readers. It’s easier than you thought, but does take some planning and organization.

A welcome email is a must-have as a part of your opt-in system. If you use applications such as MailChimp, setting up your welcome email is easy.
Use your welcome email to introduce yourself to your new subscriber, tell them what your blog is about and offer them some type of freebie.
My suggestion is to model your welcome email after your about me page on your blog. The idea is to give your readers an insight into you and what you can offer them.
Exclusive Subscriber Content
Now that your reader has subscribed, reward them by sending special content only your subscribers will get. You can send them information on a freebie, product, course, toolkit, etc. that you don’t offer the general public.
Keep in mind I am NOT talking about sending your subscribers regular blog posts in an email. Why would you do this when they already visit your site? I’m talking about extra content just for your subscriber list that can help them solve a problem while marketing your blog’s brand at the same time.
Repurpose Your Existing Content
You already have tons of valuable content on your blog. Why not repurpose it for a personal email to your subscribers. The trick here is to not copy and paste word for word into the email. Turn it into a conversation that will generate questions and feedback on your site.
I know a lot of bloggers who send a best-of email every month. This email highlights the most viewed posts from their blog and offers additional information on the topics in the blog posts. This is a great way not only to get the content out to your readers, but also keeps them interested in older content.
I read somewhere that more than 50% of bloggers never go back to their old content, update it or share it. This is a huge mistake! Old content should be just as good as your new content. If you are looking for a way to connect with your readers, a great way is to simply ask them questions. Assert yourself as an expert in your niche by offering advice, tips or tricks to help solve your readers problems.
You can ask questions in the call-to-action in each blog post, but why not go the extra step, make it even more personal, and ask your readers directly.
When you do ask questions, be prepared to answer the tough ones. One great way to answer common questions is to create a FAQ email and/or page. Once you have a FAQ page, you can direct your readers to it in each email you send.
Promote a Product
Sell your own product? Promote affiliate products? Email is a great way to promote these products. Make sure that whatever you are promoting is tied to your niche and relates to your readers’ needs.
For me, I promote a lot of technology tools to help bloggers succeed. These tools directly relate to the types of needs my readers have.
Don’t promote everything under the sun. If it doesn’t have value to your readers, don’t promote it.
A Look into Your Site
Most readers only know what they read about you from your blog. Now’s a great opportunity to let your subscribers see the behind-the-scenes of what your life is like and what you do to make your blog run.
Create a “did you know” series of emails or videos to outline the steps you take to run your blog. Offer to go further than most other bloggers go to give your readers a new insight into your niche.Give your readers a behind-the-scenes look at how you manage your blog. Click To Tweet
Blog Income Reports
Many bloggers are hesitant about sharing their income reports to their readers. For me, it’s essential in my quest to being a transparent blogger. There’s no shame in sharing income and expenses, no matter how large or small they may be.
If you decide to share this information to your email subscribers, don’t just share the numbers. Talk about what you did to get there, what you are doing today to maintain it and your future goals to grow it.
You can send almost any kind of special announcement that your readers will find useful. If you are hosting a live discussion or video session, sending invites for the event and occasional reminders is a great way to draw in engagement.
If you’ve written a new eBook or created a new web course, an email to your subscribers offering early and discounted access can draw in new readers and increase income.
Summary of New Blog Posts
So MailChimp is a great tool to use to automatically send an email roundup of your latests posts to your subscribers.
I have an RSS feed collect my posts from the past week and email to my subcribers every Friday night.
A summary email is a great way to share content your readers may not have seen on your site during the week.
Did you just hit 1,000 followers or subscribers? Did you achieve an affiliate income threshold you were aiming for during the last few years? Whatever the milestone may be, use it as an opportunity to email your subscriber list.
An extra step to take when sending out a milestone email is to include a freebie, discount code or coupon for your readers to enjoy.
Over the past few years, I’ve received many special discount codes just for my blog that I can pass on to my readers. As a celebration and recognition of your recent success, let your readers take part in the fun by giving them a reward.
